Campo di Marte concept was created in 1971 by guitarist/composer Enrico Rosa. Enrico used various combinations of acoustic and electric instruments as french horn, flutes, strings, organ, acoustic and electric guitar, drums, percussion and electric bass. This concept is like a Symphony where the music relates a story with its deep emotions. The name Campo di Marte, a quarter of Florence, means Field of Mars or "Field of War". The album lyrics refer to the foolishness of war. Campo di Marte is without any doubt one of the milestones of Italian Progressive Rock.

Can were the leading avant-garde rock group of the '70s. Their music didn't conform to any commonly held notions about rock & roll — not even those of the countercultures. Inspired more by 20th century classical music, their closest contemporaries were Frank Zappa and the Velvet Underground. Their music was more serious and inaccessible than either of those artists. Can experimented with noise, synthesizers, nontraditional music, cut-and-paste techniques and electronic music; each album marked a significant step forward from the previous album, investigating new territories that other rock bands weren't interested in exploring.
